Priscilla Presley Reveals the Truth About the End of Her Relationship With Elvis

Priscilla was married to the music legend from 1967 to 1973.

Priscilla Presley is opening up about the downfall of her marriage to Elvis Presley. While speaking on a panel at MegaCon Orlando earlier this month, Priscilla shared her candid opinion about Sofia Coppola’s 2023 film Priscilla, admitting that the movie missed the mark when it came to the ending. The film, which was based on Priscilla’s own memoir Elvis in Me, chronicles Priscilla’s love story with the “Suspicious Minds” crooner, whom she was married to for six years.

But while Priscilla said she initially had no worries about Coppola’s ability to capture their story, she confessed that the ending of the film didn’t exactly do it for her. “The only thing was the ending. I wasn’t really happy about the ending,” Priscilla, 79, said during the panel, according to PEOPLE. “It didn’t end that way, and we ended—Elvis and I ended very lovingly.” After tying the knot in 1967 and welcoming their first and only child together, Lisa Marie Presley, in 1968, Elvis and Priscilla eventually divorced in 1973. They are said to have remained close until the musician’s death in 1977, at the age of 42.

In Coppola’s film, which stars Jacob Elordi and Cailee Spaeny as the famous couple, Priscilla’s character can be seen leaving Graceland and getting into her car after ending things with Elvis. The movie ends with her driving away as “I Will Always Love You” plays in the background. “We still we kept our relationship. We did,” Priscilla explained during the Feb. 7 panel. “He would drop by my home unannounced, and I was going with someone by the way, and he would come unannounced.”

“Thank God it was two o’clock in the morning, and I knew who it was, so I quickly tried to get to the door before he rang the doorbell, and of course he came in, we went in the kitchen, we talked for a couple of hours.” Priscilla said she decided to leave after finding letters from other women proving his infidelity. “He was famous, he was loving, he was a beautiful, beautiful man,” she stated. “I just couldn’t take it. It just was not a good life for me.”
